Welcome to Weather-Above
Captain's log
18/08/2006 to 23/08/2006   temperature and humidity, main sensor was replaced due to a fault,
{solar sensor,barometer,1 soil sensors  rain gauge working okay}

23/08/2006 Time 11.00am temperature and humidity, main sensor replaced and reactivated

1/11/2006
Modified rain gauge heater installed a thermal cut-out switch operating temperature
{ open at 30c off }  { and reset 20c on }
Made and installed a insulating jacket to the outside the rain gauge

10/11/2006 Moved the weather station data software to a dedicated PC

17/11/2006 Installed a 1000vA  UPSmart power backup system on the computer, Full surge protection, overload protection, CPU controlled

17/11/2006 installed a 500vA   Back UPS for Weather station console ,Full surge protection, overload protection

20/11/2006 Added a UV filter to the Webcam lens , this will help with the glare from the window and direct sun into the lens
{old UV filter of a 35 millimetre lens}

21/11/2006 Solar sensor, Added a black tube which clips on to the probe this was made from a car in line, fuse holder
one end of the tube covers the probe, the tube extends and touches the glass globe, the tube is open ended
this has definitely improved the sensitivity

Before installing the black tube I had to lower the settings in the solar sensor setup {Winter settings} I wanted to keep all the settings the same through the year,
since adding the tube I have gone back to the summer settings, overcoming the need for a winter setting

Added Thermo Sensor on a Concrete Slab 12" x 12"

02/12/06 Added 3 Wireless 433mhz Repeater to extends the reception distance on some of the sensors

30/11/2006
Internet provider stopped trading
there was no earlier warning before cutting off the Internet connection
Reapplying Internet connection with talk talk they promised to get reconnected soon as possible

go live date is 28/1/2007

21/1/2007
Fixed the Traditional gauges in the Stevenson screen I have altered the screen to take the Sheathed ordinary Hygrometer .
Met Office pattern (BS692). + a small fan to help with air flow

25/01/2007
Added a sensor for UV INDEX   Oregon Scientific UVR 138 (Ultra-Violet)
data is read manually

25/01/2007
Added a device for measuring a uv dose at 30 minutes in the sun
the reading is  m J/cm 2 data is read manually

21/02/2007
subscribe to StrikeStar for  Live lightning Data

07/03/2007
1 wire weather station to add extra sensors

Added a  Lightning sensor

28/03/2007

Made bracket and assembled  the wet leaf sensor
should be operational sometime in May

06/04/2007

Made stainless steel electrodes for the soil  monitoring
and cast Gypsum Block around electrodes

23/04/2007

Assembling, Replacing main mounting pole ,
aluminium and stainless steel mounting brackets for sensors

26/04/2007

added Wet Leaf sensor

07/05/2007
Soil moisture Now working

07/06/2007
Added a Surge protector
circuit boards made in-house

06/07/2007
Remounted  moisture sensors, to a plastic backing plate
Rewired and replaced water proof box  with cable glands

23/08/2007
Replaced soil sensor
Installed watermark soil sensor and calibrated
At a depth of 5 inches
200 dry- 0 wet

27/08/2007

Installed 1 wire soil temperature probe
at a depth of 5 inches
Checked all temperature sensors  and  calibrated

Added a control box to the rain gauge heater
+ 1 wire temperature probe

1/10/2007
Checked the rain gauge calibration settings, everything is fine, no alterations made

03/ 11/ 2007

Added a rain duration sensor { data is being displayed as wet leaf Sensor untell whether display can accommodate this as a separate sensor)

02/02/2008

Added a ultraviolet sensor ( interfaced  with a Oregon  extra temperature sensor wireless)

Added a rain duration sensor ( interfaced with a Oregon extra temperature sensor wireless)

04/03/2008

Added a adjustable stand for the rain duration sensor

08/03/2008

Added a adjustable stand for the UV sensor

13/03/2008

Redesigned rain gauge heater using a 20w halogen light

19/03/2008

Serviced the rain sensor, And added a adjustable  stand this will give optimum levelling options

10/04/2008

Installed prototype Oregon wireless solar radiation sensor calibration will take a few days

32/04/2008

Cleaned homemade Solar Radiation screen ,checked calibration of temperature and humidity-wet bulb
compared the readings with the traditional Sheathed ordinary Hygrometer Met Office pattern (BS692)
temperature readings spot-on / humidity readings were reading  lower and this is due to the nature
of electronic humidity Sensor calibrating is necessary once a year readings are now spot-on

03/10/2008

I have now replaced the Oregon  barometer with a hobby board barometer
It reads pressure from 28-32 inHg (948-1083 mb). It's resolution is 0.01 inHg (0.34 mb).

01/01/2009

Added a vortex wind speed sensor, and a electronic E-Vane to the 1 wire weather station

05/02/2009

Designed surge protection voltage snap back to protect vortex wind speed sensor, and a electronic E-Vaneon

04/01/2009

designed a  surge protection voltage snapback, with LED indicators, fuse protection, for the one wire power injection source

29/03/2009

Data may be missing from this day due to testing wind sensors with the windworks interface
Testing all angles for the compass in weather display data was all correct and there were no dead spots

16/06/2009

Fitted a 1 wire rain gauge sensor

03/12/2009

Checked all wiring, checked all junction boxes, tested  devices,
Calibration all temperature sensors
Replacement sensors , temperature, humidity, HB UV { temperature, humidity circuit board may fail  ,possible component
failure due to short circuit caused by spider?

HB UV sensor was returned for diagnostics ,temporary using uv1 mod on the Oregon station

01/03/2010
Replaced plastic junction box
With a new type no screws/ locking pegs to secure lid

10/03/2010

Installed earthquake sensor
data is on webpage

30/03/2010
Mounted a experimental non-tipping rain gauge
waiting for software to be Compatible with this device

13/04/2010
Replaced fan in screen box

I have recently started using NoteScribe to organise my notes, the premium version enables me to use different  Notebooks ( database). I'm using one for my biblical studies, one for general notes, and one for my electronic  weather projects. I would recommend going to their website and looking at their online help videos, and try out the programme for yourself. Mick Paarry-Thomas
